SAN ANTONIO – Government Greg Abbott will provide an update on Monday on the distribution of the state COVID-19 vaccine in Texas.
Abbott is expected to speak at a press conference at noon at the Arlington Expo Center, one of the state’s mass COVID-19 vaccination sites. The press conference will be broadcast live in this article, but delays are possible. If no live stream is available, please come back later.
The head of the Texas Emergency Management Division, Nim Kidd, Commissioner John Hellerstedt of the Texas State Department of Health Services and Texas Health Resources Executive Director Barclay E. Berdan will also be in attendance.
This week, 28 hub providers in Texas are expected to receive more than 158,000 doses of vaccine. A total of 19,725 doses will go to two hubs in Bexar County: 9,000 Modern vaccines will go to the Metropolitan Health District and 10,725 doses of Pfizer will go to University Health, according to the state.
The city of San Antonio will begin administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to those who are eligible starting this week at Alamodome. It will be in operation during the week, but registration to receive the vaccine was completed in a few minutes, when it opened on Saturday.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff wrote a letter to Abbott on Sunday requesting more COVID-19 vaccines for Bexar County “as soon as possible.”

Texas is currently vaccinating health care workers, people 65 and older, and those with medical conditions that put them at higher risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
As of Sunday, the death toll is over 30,000, with coronaviruses steadily rising.
Johns Hopkins says that in the last two weeks, the average continuous number of new daily cases in Texas has increased by 9,363.7, an increase of 76.9%.
