  • The code in the latest Android 12 DP 3 suggests that the Google Pixel 5a processor could be Snapdragon 765G.
  • In particular, this is the same processor in Google Pixel 5.
  • This is not a safe deal, but it would make a lot of sense with the rumors surrounding “Whitechapel”.

We know for sure that a new Pixel from the “a” series is on its way, to be known as the Google Pixel 5a 5G. However, apart from the fact that it exists and looks a lot like the Pixel 4a 5G, we don’t know much.

That could have changed today. Thanks for some Android 12 DP 3 codes 9to5Google, it looks like the Pixel 5a could have Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G under the hood. This is the same processor that powers Google’s current flagship, the Pixel 5.

The code in the Android 12 version released today refers to “barbet” as well as “sm7250”. The former is believed to be the code name for the Google Pixel 5a, while the latter is definitely the Snapdragon 765G model number.

Obviously, this is not a true confirmation that the Pixel 5a could have a Snapdragon 765G. However, when you consider that the Pixel 6 may have Google’s own silicon inside – codenamed “Whitechapel” – the Pixel 5a with a Qualcomm chip available on the shelf makes sense.

Of course, if the Pixel 5a is priced under $ 400, as were the other phones in the “a” series, the Pixel 5 will suddenly appear way too expensive. It is possible that Google will lower the price of Pixel 5 in tandem with the launch of Pixel 5a, if this rumor turns out to be true.
