The Google Maps app for iOS was finally updated after four months

After the full launch of app privacy tags for its apps in the App Store, Google today updated the Google Maps app for the first time in four months.

Google Maps green green

Apple in December began asking for all new app submissions and app updates to include app privacy tags, detailing the data collected by the app so consumers know what they’re sharing.

Google did not begin implementing application privacy tags until February, and Google applications passed a few months without an update. In fact, Gmail lasted so long without an update that it started giving users a warning that it was out of date, but no update was available.

Google Maps was updated with app privacy tags in early April, and along with Google Photos, it was one of the last apps to get the details of the data collection.

Now that Google Maps is following the rules in the App Store, Google is able to update it again. Today’s version 5.65 update is scaled down, providing bug fixes that improve Google Maps, but Google is now free to add additional features in the future.
