The free 40-character trial may indicate the release date of season 5 for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition

Currently, it only seems to PlayStation users

It’s been over six months now, but we’re all just a day away from seeing what the future of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition holds in store for us.

To help celebrate the winter update and the end of the competition season, Capcom has released a new free trial version of the Champion edition, which includes all 40 characters played. What could be more interesting than playing Gill or Seth right now is the timing of the trial and more precisely when it ends.

Currently, the current demo is only available to PlayStation 4 (or PlayStation 5) users, so unfortunately 4Gamer could make PC gamers listen to it.

Although we know the Japanese end time now, it seems that it will become available after 23:00, February 24, which could indicate when we can see the launch of the final season.

It would make sense that Capcom would not want to spend any additional resources to update a free version of SF5 that would be removed in just a few days, so the launch of Season 5 may not come until February 25, if it is in true case.

On the other hand, the publisher could also be very open and could allow free players to enjoy a few days of the upgrade to try and get them to buy the full version afterwards.

In previous years, Capcom has generally launched the new season just after the Capcom Cup ends in December, although the cancellation of this and tomorrow’s Winter Update throws almost all that playing card out the window.

The Capcom Pro Tour 2020 season finale is set to take place on February 20-21, with two days of online matches lined up, and given that the Capcom Cup was scheduled to take place at the same time, there is also a good chance we can see that Sunday.

The winter update of Street Fighter 5 will be the place to finally see all that Dan has to offer as the first DLC character of the S5, although Rose is confirmed to appear as well.

It will also serve as one of the first occasions that SF5 developers will sit down to discuss the balance changes that will come to SF5, as well as the new combat mechanic that will come into play.

We hope that Capcom will provide a release date tomorrow during the stream, but it could only tell us to tune in to the CPT finals to find out when we can play new SF5 content in over a year without substantial updates.
