More than two years after the scapegoats hit coach Chili Davis, the current coach who hit the Mets took a hit on his Chicago employers.
Who asked him?
No one. That was the beauty.
Because he spoke sincerity, if not truth.
Asked about the value of the personal trainer again this year after “training” away from home last summer due to concerns about COVID-19, Davis spoke before Wednesday’s game about the value of personal chats and “a reliable factor here.”
“And I’m glad I left a place where there was no confidence in me and those who hit there,” he added. “So this is a breath of fresh air for me right here.
Then the three-time All-Star, with 350 career homers and a .360 base, went on to talk about several Mets hitters.
The Cubs said they hired the three-time World Series champion and long-time coach after the 2017 season to help approach some of the young, talented hitters who hit the core – then fired him after a season. when they hit Kris, Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. “Did not connect” with the message he was hired to send.
The team’s president at the time, Theo Epstein, said the “crime broke out” in the second half of the 2018 season, and Davis became the fifth coach hit by Epstein in seven years.
Davis didn’t stay out of work for long. And whatever one might think of the Mets’ offensive production since Davis took over, the ongoing chicken problems that brought that young nucleus to the brink of demolition at least justified it.
Not that he asked for any justification.
“I know what I know. And I know what I’m bringing isn’t wrong, “Davis said the day he left Chicago after being fired. “I am not to blame for this. I will not blame anyone. It did not work. ”
And since he brought it up for discussion on Wednesday, here is what he said in October 2018:
“It simply came to our notice then [the hitting coach], certain players there will have to make some adjustments because the game has changed, “he said,” and the players throw them differently. He doesn’t shoot anymore to shoot angles and fly balls and all that. ”
Fast forward to Wednesday. And again, since Davis brought her up for discussion, she’s been asked to track down the Cubs.
“I want to beat them, probably as much as any other team,” he said.
And about all those problems that the Cubs hit the baseball as a team last season and for most of the beginning of this year?
“I don’t know what the problems are there,” he said. “What I saw happened there, I said. And I expressed it to the management before they fired me. But that was in the past.
“There are some good guys there. I don’t want to hurt them. And they lost a lot of players who were there when we were there, “he added, praising Albert Almora, who is now with the Mets.
“I am in a stage of revival right now, but I am sure he is still trying to win. And they still have a good ball club. … You can’t underestimate them. And any problem that happens there with them is not my problem. It’s not my business. ”
