A Florida teenager who was accused of being the “brain” behind a July 2020 Twitter hack that affected Apple has agreed to a plea deal that will see him spend three years in prison, according to Tampa Bay Times.

Graham Ivan Clark, among others, compromised the Twitter accounts of 130 major companies and individuals to solicit Bitcoin, cheating people over $ 100,000. The official Apple account was accessed, as were the accounts of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former US President Barack Obama, former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and President Joe Biden.
This week, Clark will plead guilty to state charges in exchange for three years in prison and three years of probation. Because Clark was only 17 at the time of the attack, he will be convicted of being a “young criminal” and may be eligible to serve part of his time in a military-style camp.
Under the terms of the application recognition agreement, Clark is not allowed to use the computers without the permission and supervision of law enforcement.
Twitter conducted an internal investigation after the violation and found that the hackers targeted employees in a “phone phishing attack”, fooling them into believing they were talking to other Twitter employees to gain access to Twitter’s internal tools.
Mason “Chaewon” Sheppard from the UK and Nima “Rolex” Fazeli were also charged in the attack and face jail.
