The main studies are based on a theory with a neoclassical approach that focuses on identifying food consumption and changing it over time, taking into account household resources, per capita income and family budgets (impact of income, amount of money) predestined for
feeding and in families’ strategies for accessing food).

From a gender perspective, it is proposed that gender relations go through the analysis of the food economy, as the roles assigned socially and culturally to men and women are at stake in food.

Inequality of opportunity persists in the public and domestic spheres. Food care, health and the environment should be taken into account. One of the biggest challenges is how to develop actions between men and women that target social equity in an economy that is sometimes subsistence.

The analysis of the family economy from a gender perspective is to see the family as the elementary unit of economic production and consumption, of reproduction of human capital and at the same time as the space in which people make decisions, taking into account different limitations of knowledge and resources. implement your preferences.

From this approach, the management of the family economy is still maintained by women, especially when we talk about food at home. It was her responsibility to provide a cheap and nutritious meal, such as grocery shopping, preparing and organizing menus, and so on.

Eating healthy and nutritious does not mean eating expensive. You can think about the variety of foods, to choose them, to use them under the criterion of obtaining a better performance, thus obtaining savings that can be significant in the cost of the food basket, without sacrificing, but improving the family diet.

If you have time or if the purchases are divided between different family members, you can buy food in different places, not always in the same business, looking for and choosing the one that has the best price or a good offer, given the quality of nutritional value.

There are five important elements in a healthy diet that need to be considered:

1. Quantity: all the caloric needs of the body must be covered.

2. Quality: provides nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.

3. Harmony: a proportional relationship between different nutrients, carbohydrates: 50-60%. Protein: 12 – 15% Lipids / fats: 30 – 35% Vitamins and minerals.

4. Match: adaptation to the biological, physiological moment (newborn, school, pregnant, older adult), to people’s tastes and habits, to their socio-economic situation and / or to the diseases that the individual may present.

5. Maintain good hydration: It is a basic pillar of a healthy diet, it is suggested to drink between 1.8 and 2.8 liters of water per day.
