Byun Hui-su, 23, who was a sergeant before being discharged after having surgery in Thailand while on vacation, was found by emergency officials at her home in Cheongju City, south of Seoul.
There was no immediate word on the cause of her death.
A local counseling center, where Byun was registered, told emergency officials she could not be contacted since Feb. 28, the local fire department said.
Cheongju police confirmed that the body found in Byun’s house on Wednesday was the former soldier. Authorities said he apparently died a few days ago.
Byun, who has expressed hope that she will continue to serve in the military corps, followed a trial to challenge her dismissal, with a hearing expected in April, according to a spokeswoman for the Center for Military Human advocacy group Rights Korea, who worked with her.
