The first things to set up in Windows 10

Either you just downloaded a new PC or you recently updated the software, when you first start your Windows 10 computer, there are a few settings and presets that you want to enable to ensure the best user experience.

First, sign in to your Microsoft account to sync your previous settings and save any new settings you make in Windows 10. Then check for updates – if you’ve just upgraded using an older version of Windows 10 , you will want to do this to make sure you have the latest version of all. To stay up to date, sign up for the Windows Insider Program to gain access to the latest features.

Here’s the next round of settings you want to switch:

  • Go to Display and tweak Night light mode to adjust the screen color temperature during dark hours.
  • Go to Notifications and actions to stop all those Microsoft alerts.
  • Go to Storage and turn on Without Storage to keep your system clean.
  • Once your applications are installed, sign in Activity bar and “Select which icons will appear in the taskbar” to make everything look neat.
  • Similarly, go to Applications and click Start up to decide which applications launch automatically when the computer starts, which should be just one or two at most.
