The first regional vaccination center in San Juan opens tomorrow

The National Guard of Puerto Rico has announced that Phase 1A of the vaccination process for non-hospital health workers will begin tomorrow, with the opening of the first regional vaccination center at the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum in Hato Rey.

“Today we are opening the first regional vaccination center in the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum and in the coming days we will open other centers in Caguas, Arecibo and Ponce. These vaccination centers are intended for health workers who do not work in hospitals, such as private doctors, dentists, clinical laboratory employees, among others, ”explains Puerto Rico Adjutant General Major General Jose J. Reyes. .

According to Reyes, the Caguas vaccination center will be located at the Center of Fine Arts, in Arecibo at the Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum, while in Ponce the Salvador Dijols Coliseum will be designed as a vaccination center.

The adjutant general indicated that modern pharmaceutical vaccines were used for this vaccination and for the diagnosis and treatment centers, 330 centers, HIPPA centers and for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Puerto Rico.

“Based on the fact that the flow of Pfizer vaccines has decreased in the United States, we had to adjust our logistics and instead of starting with emergency responders this Wednesday, we moved on to health workers. in these four centers, as they are the ones on the front lines of the fight, ”said Reyes.

The distribution and administration of the vaccine is carried out in three stages as determined by the Center for Disease Control due to the availability of initial vaccine doses. Phase 1A includes hospital staff, healthcare professionals, as well as people who work and live in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Phase 1B includes first responders such as police, fire brigade, emergency response, medical emergencies and disaster relief. Phase 1C includes people with chronic illnesses and people who are immunocompromised, as well as employees of the Department of Education and essential employees such as Electric Power Authority, Aqueduct and Sewer Authority personnel and pharmacists.

On Monday, the National Guard of Puerto Rico received 47,500 doses of Moderna’s vaccine, 20,000 of which are available to start the vaccination at the Pedrín Zorrilla vaccination center and other regional vaccination centers.
