Illinois health officials reported 1,631 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus on Sunday, the smallest single-day increase in that value since early October.
This news comes as vaccination efforts continue to intensify across the state. According to the latest information from IDPH, the state has set a new record for most average COVID-19 vaccines in the last week, with more than 60,000 residents receiving daily vaccine doses.

Chicago opens 4 COVID-19 vaccination sites for school employees
Four COVID-19 vaccination sites dedicated to teachers and staff in Chicago’s public schools are expected to be fully operational next week, district officials said.
Starting Monday, Chicago will reserve 1,500 photos a week for employees in the country’s third-largest school district. This is in addition to the approximately 2,000 doses offered in recent days to teachers who are at higher risk of illness or who return to the classroom earlier after the district gradually reopens. Some pre-K and special education students began in-person classes on Thursday.
Vaccination sites are at four schools, including Clemente High School, where some educators have already been shot. District officials said employees will be relieved of duties during vaccination schedules.

Illinois health officials reported 1,631 confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus on Sunday, along with 35 additional deaths.
According to the State Department of Public Health, the new cases on Sunday were the lowest reported in a single day since early October. In total, 1,162,154 cases of the virus have been recorded in Illinois since the beginning of the pandemic, along with 19,961 confirmed deaths.
Another 2,160 deaths are classified as “probable” deaths by COVID-19.

All of Illinois remains in phase 4 coronavirus attenuation as virus-related values continue to improve in most parts of the state.
According to the IDPH website, all regions in the state have a positivity rate of 5% or less in the last seven days, with most regions continuing to see declines in hospitalizations.
Under current COVID mitigation rules, a region will remain in phase 4 of the state reopening plan, unless it reports a positivity rate of more than 6.5% for three consecutive days, the availability of the ICU bed below 20 % or increase in hospitalizations in seven days in a 10-day period.
