The Faculty of Medicine will join the coordination of training for ITC

After the medical union and the Uruguayan Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SUMI) expressed their concern and “surprise” at the call made by the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) a few days ago to train staff working in outside the intensive care areas and with additional personal training, the president of ASSE, Leonardo Cipriani, met with representatives of both sectors and promised to join the Faculty of Medicine in training.

“Maybe (the meeting) should have happened at the beginning,” Cipriani admitted at a news conference on Monday after the requested meeting. There, both ASSE, the Internal Medical Federation (FEMI), the Uruguayan Medical Union (SMU) and SUMI agreed to hold two training sessions that will have more than two classes. In the initial appeal, ASSE had proposed two courts, one virtual and the other face-to-face. The first would be through the ASSE training platform, while the second would be in person at the CTI of an ASSE execution unit.

In turn, the planning of the courses will also include the private sphere and the Faculty of Medicine will join the coordination, with which the intensivists, the unions and the ASSE will have a new meeting on Tuesday.

“We want to assure the population that in the event of a disaster scenario, the participating staff has the skills and competencies to provide quality assistance. Obviously, we do not want this to happen and it does not seem to be happening in the long term. short, but it can happen and we can’t wait, “said SMU President Gustavo Grecco.

Meanwhile, Cipriani said that the courses are not meant to “replace the intensivist”, but to train doctors who have undergone intensive care in their training, so that, if necessary, they can support the intensivist.

The theoretical and practical planning in which the Faculty of Medicine will intervene does not yet have a start date for courses or duration, which will depend on the number of students, explained SUMI member Luis Nuñez. The ASSE call will accept the registration of anesthetists, pediatric intensivists, specialists in internal medicine, cardiology and emergencies with more than three years of experience. Professionals must be graduates or complete the final year of priority specialties (in postgraduate or residency mode), “the appeal said.

Interested parties should register with the human resources department of the enforcement unit in which they operate, while hiring, if necessary, will be done through a support committee. The registration period opened on Thursday and will continue until Friday, January 29.

Cipriani noted that the system “worked below 60%” of the JTI occupancy, “as it always did,” and said that the effect of the vaccine “will not be immediate,” but that immunizing the population will help keep the system from collapsing. According to the latest SUMI report, there are currently 99 inpatients in intensive care who occupy 56.6% of all beds, leaving about 334 beds free. 12.9% are patients with covid-19.
