The ex-husband “is not happy” about the story with Shkreli

Former Bloomberg reporter Christie Smythe admits that her ex-husband is not “happy” after going public with her love story, which involved the insulted “Pharma Bro”, Martin Shkreli.

Smythe, a former journalist who divorced financier Devin Arcoleo while falling in love with Shkreli, said she had learned from her ex-husband since her bizarre story broke on the weekend – but it wasn’t pretty.

“A few texts,” she told Elle when asked if Arcoleo had contacted her, according to a follow-up interview he gave her after she published her original sensational story on Sunday.

“They were not happy texts,” admitted Smythe, 38.

But the ex-wife added about her ex-wife: “It depends on him, whatever he wants to do. It’s his job. “

Arcoleo, 36 – a graduate of the prestigious Stern School of Business at New York University and now vice president of investment firm Pimco, according to his LinkedIn page – and Smythe, 38, married in 2014.

The couple led an idyllic life in Brooklyn, she told Elle – cooking, walking her rescue dog and enjoying “literary pub crawls.”

Then Shkreli entered the picture.

In 2015, the 37-year-old former pharmaceutical chief was nicknamed “the ugliest man in the world” – because he raised the price of an AIDS drug by almost 5,000 percent overnight. Two years later, he was convicted of running away from investors and then sentenced in 2018 to seven years behind bars.

But Smythe, who helped cover Shkreli’s fraud case for Bloomberg, said it was misunderstood, and as the couple’s relationship blossomed, her marriage fell apart.

“He’s just using you,” Arcoleo told Smythe at one point in Shkreli, according to Elle.

A woman who met Smythe and Arcoleo when they were married and lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn, told The Post on Tuesday that the former “is a nice guy who ended up in an unfortunate situation.”

Smythe and her husband filed for divorce on Jan. 2, 2019, records show – and her story with Shkreli warmed up, with the couple kissing and trading “I Love You” during visits to a Pennsylvania penitentiary, she said. mag.

But Smythe’s current relationship with the cone is now up in the air. He appeared to throw her through a statement from one of his lawyers to Elle, and Smythe later told The Post that she could start dating other men.

Arcoleo did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday, nor did Smythe.

Smythe now lives in Harlem, while her ex calls downtown Brooklyn at home.
