The ERCOT call for Texans to retain power ends; No energy emergencies have been reported, officials say

Texas power grid operator ERCOT, which has been on fire due to the management of the historic winter storm since mid-February, says an urgent request for energy conservation on Tuesday has now ended.

“Our call for energy conservation ended without the need for an energy emergency. Thank you for conserving energy when needed,” the network operator wrote on Twitter at 8:40 p.m.

While making the alert and conservation request about four hours earlier, ERCOT said it did not expect customer outages.

“Declaring an emergency would allow us access to additional resources,” ERCOT explained.

On conservation, he urged consumers and businesses to reduce their electricity consumption this afternoon and evening.

During an evening call with ERCOT officials, they were asked if Texans should expect this to happen again. ERCOT said it was certainly possible.

The agency reminded reporters that it was not the same situation as the February winter storm and said it was just a precautionary event that would “tighten conditions for a few hours.”
