OAKLAND – Clayton Kershaw eliminated eight of seven good innings to condemn Athletics to the worst start to the season in more than a century. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated Oakland 5-1 on Tuesday, who have yet to win a game, and recorded their fifth straight victory.
Mookie Betts hit his first home round of the season, a devastating solo shot in the center left in the ninth. Max Muncy and Edwin Ríos also received a homer for World Series Dodgers champion (5-1).
Kershaw (1-1), who had a job without light when he lost to Colorado in the first game of the season, was much more focused on Tuesday. He allowed a run and four shots, went without a walk and retired 20 of 22 after Ramón Laureano’s double RBI in the first. Chris Bassitt (0-2) lost.
Going from 0 to 6, Athletics equaled the worst start in franchise history. Philadelphia Athletics also began the 1916 season with six losses in a row.
Oakland and Atlanta (0-4) are the only teams that have not yet won the major.
For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Edwin Ríos 4-2 with two goals scored and an RBI.
For Athletics, Ramón Laureano 4-2 with an RBI. Venezuelan Elvis Andrus 3-0.
