The Department of Security is discussing measures it will take to address violations of the law by tourists

The Department of Public Safety (DSP) held an emergency meeting this morning to coordinate a plan for tourists violating the executive order against COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.

The meeting was held at Police Headquarters, Hato Rey, with DSP Secretary Alexis Torres; the Commissioner of the State Uniform, Antonio López Figueroa; the Minister of Health, Carlos Mellado; and the director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Carlos Mercado.

Meanwhile, San Juan Municipal Police Commissioner José Juan García apologized for having previously started a meeting with the capital’s mayor, Miguel Romero.

Torres posted the call for the rally on his Twitter account yesterday, after seeing firsthand on Saturday night the number of people staying in the County late at night, when the touch is over.

Torres accompanied the Director of the Department of Health’s Office of Investigations, Jesús Hernández, who intervened at several companies last night.

San Juan Municipal Police tried to support Salud, complicated by the amount of car traffic in the Condado area, where even a drunken man collided with Colonel José Juan García’s official vehicle.

They eventually placed patrols at two of the main entrances to check the flow of vehicles, which they also had to do at the entrance to Old San Juan.

Torres also noted that health department inspectors are having difficulty getting tourists to comply with the executive order.

Still, between Friday evening and the early hours of yesterday, the inspectors conducted 25 interventions at companies in the metropolitan area, culminating in the closure of 15 branches and fines for another 10.

In addition, they intervened on tourists who did not adhere to the travel declaration form established in Puerto Rico, the agency reported this Sunday.

This morning it was reported that the Justice declaration against three tourists who supposedly swore they would stay in quarantine for the COVID-19 on arrival in Puerto Rico, but they were located during an operation in the La Perla neighborhood, San Juan, by police officers and inspectors from Health
