
Brazil reported 2,841 coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday, the highest daily death toll since the start of the pandemic, according to the health ministry.
The total number of deaths in the country of Covid-19 is now 282,127.
In addition, 83,926 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to 11,603,535.
On Monday, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced the appointment of cardiologist Marcelo Queiroga as the country’s fourth health minister since the pandemic that struck in March last year. Queiroga replaces the current minister, Army General Eduardo Pazuello, who has headed the health ministry since May 16, 2020.
The transition to the Ministry of Health will take place in a few weeks, according to Bolsonaro.
Meanwhile, the governors of the most affected regions of the country have announced the adoption of night stages and more restrictive measures to try to limit the spread of the virus.
Fourteen of Brazil’s twenty-six states, plus the federal district, are subject to coverage – generally between 8pm and 5am – most of which have been implemented in the last week.
In addition, 18 state governments have announced more restrictive measures in the last five days.
