The Mexican team started its journey to the Club World Cup on February 4, the day they defeated Ulsan Hyundai FC with the score of 2-1, in what were the quarterfinals of the tournament, a different situation from the Germans who went straight to the semifinals.
Bayern Munich are in this competition after being proclaimed champions of the 2020 Champions League, which ended undefeated.
