A woman who earned the nickname “dance nurse” for cheering her COVID-19 patients with her moves while volunteering across the country contracted the virus.
Ana Wilkinson, a registered nurse who had treated coronavirus patients in New York and more recently in Texas, wrote on Instagram on Monday that she was fighting the virus and urging the public to wear masks.
“I wanted to share the fact that health workers are getting sick. We take care of the public and yes, we get sick. We are people. But if we get sick, who will take care of your families? Wilkinson wrote.
“As more and more nurses get sick or even die, we feel frustrated, tired and discouraged. All we ask of you is to wear your mask. “⠀⠀
Wilkinson, who is based in San Diego, California, tested negative on Dec. 13 and returned to work at UC San Diego Medical Center on Monday.
She was tested again and vaccinated on December 16. He learned a few days later that COVID’s results were positive, according to KABC-TV.
Wilkinson says he doesn’t know how he contracted the virus. She mentioned that the firefighter’s husband was probably exposed at work, but that he gave negative results.
The nurse told KGTV that she will always remember the patients she lost and warned that the virus preys on anyone.
“My 23-year-olds, my 25-year-olds, tell my family because I felt they were my children that I tried everything I could to save them. And for a 32-year-old woman who died of COVID, ”she said. “That’s what I’m trying to tell people, COVID doesn’t discriminate, age, race, color, nothing. He just chooses you. “
