The damage will keep Punta Catalina out of service for another three weeks

Santo Domingo, RD.

Electricity authorities reported today that, despite working 24 hours a day to speed up repairs, the Punta Catalina thermal power plant number two will remain out of service for at least another three weeks.

The administrator of Termoeléctrica, Serafin Canario, said that the construction consortium formed by the companies Odebrecht-Tecnimont-Estrella has arranged 24-hour shifts and that the technicians of its management are following the works that are expected to be completed on February 23.

Likewise, Canario reported that energy production remains stable and that the National Interconnected Energy System (SENI) made the site forecasts to avoid affecting the population.

He explained that The technicians of the consortium are working in an accelerated way to repair the damages in boiler no. 2 of the installation and took advantage of repairs to make other corrections to avoid future shutdowns.

He indicated that all the work carried out by the consortium is at its expense, as the factory is still under warranty, which expires on April 24.

“It is important to clarify that this is the third failure suffered by boiler No. 2 in about a year of operation,” Canario reported.
