PlayStation 5 owners have no option to change the facets of the console at this time, but this could change in the near future due to the red, black, blue options from CMP Shells. Previously sold through the “Platestation.com” website, the third-party manufacturer has been forced to cancel pre-orders since November, citing the threat of legal action from Sony. However, the company has applied for a patent for its design and it looks like it will be able to sell these faceplates without fear of legal action. According to the CMP website, its faces have a slightly different design from Sony’s, which also offers superior ventilation.
An Instagram video of the CMP Shells faceplates that are attached to the PS5 can be found embedded below.
From the video, it looks like the faces should be pretty easy to blink! The company allows players to choose between cards compatible with both the digital and the physical version of the console. Customers have additional options in addition to the front panel covers, including skins that allow them to change the color of the middle part and the controller.
Only 1000 units of each shell will be offered and can be purchased for $ 49.99. Fans who want to make the controller fit the console can get a controller skin as part of a package that includes shells and a $ 69.99 vinyl tape. The middle bands are also sold separately for $ 15, so buyers can combine and match if they wish. More information can be found on the company’s website right here.
It will be interesting to see if the legal issues have been completely resolved or not! CMP Shells seems very confident that Sony will not be able to prevent the sale of the front plates this time and expects them to start delivery by the end of February. It remains to be seen whether or not Sony is considering the possibility of offering an official option to replace the PS5 faceplates, but it seems that it would have been punched on it. Those interested in buying shells will have to keep their fingers crossed for everything to go as planned this time.
