THEEarly Friday afternoon, it was preparing to be an average day for Kim Kardashian West. She had uploaded videos to her Instagram story, showcasing the latest models in her SKIMS clothing line, and posted photos of her relaxing in the living room with a thin gold band still on her ring finger.
But just hours later, it was announced that Kim had filed for divorce from her husband Kanye West after nearly seven years of marriage.
The Kardashians are famous for their business acumen. Beyond the simple appearance in their reality series Keeping up with the Kardashians, each of the sisters runs her own business.
Kylie Jenner runs a $ 1 billion makeup empire, Kim has both a beauty and clothing line, Khloe owns the Good American clothing brand and Kourtney has developed a Goop-inspired inspired blog Poosh.
And perhaps the most recent example of the family’s skill at creating profitable companies is Kendall Jenner launching a tequila brand. With these measures, it should come as no surprise that, after months of speculation, Kim and Kanye were heading for divorce, the long-awaited confirmation of the rumor was part of a larger game plan.
According to TMZ, which first announced the news, the divorce is going smoothly, with both sides already agreeing on joint custody for their four northern children, 7; Saint, 5; Chicago, 3; and Psalm 1. The information unit also reported that Kim and Kayne are fine with the terms of their first name and are “far” in reaching an agreement on their various properties.
With such an amicable divorce, the question arises: Why did Kim file now?

The Kardashian-Jenner family used their show for a long time to address situations they would not develop in real time, instead waiting for the dust to settle to have the last word, often allowing them to control the narrative.
When it was rumored for months that Kylie Jenner was pregnant, her team did not comment until they released a video showing her travel during pregnancy. A few months later, her pregnancy was her argument for the season.
For the most part, Khloe Kardashian let the drama between her partner Tristan Thompson play on screen, who cheated on her – once when she was nine months pregnant and then when she was accused of being related to family friend Jordyn Woods.
Similarly, Kim has remained silent since it was first reported that her marriage was one step away, keeping up appearances by occasionally wearing the ring and posting normally on social media.
Last year was extremely rocky for the couple, apparently triggered by West announcing that they are running for president.
