The COVID-19 outbreak in Washington Costco leaves 145 workers infected

At least 145 Costco employees in Washington state have been infected with COVID-19, county health officials said Tuesday, according to a report.

The fire in the Union Gap store could worsen, officials said, as workers continue testing, KOMO news reported.

“As Costco continues to test at the site level, we anticipate that the number of cases will continue to grow over the next few days as the results are received,” said Melissa Sixberry, director of disease control in Yakima County.

The store, which employs 383 people, is allowed to remain open during the outbreak, as it has implemented county-recommended measures to reduce the spread of the contagion.

All 145 workers who tested positive are isolated, the report said.

Yakima County, where the store is located, reported more than 18,200 confirmed COVID-19 cases since Wednesday.
