A new variant of the coronavirus is in the Gulf area and is thought to be the first of its kind in the United States. It is a double mutation and is believed to be responsible for the increase in cases in India.
Fresh out of a vacation in Hawaii, some travelers, mostly families with children in tow, arrived in San Jose on Saturday night, with the Big Island still in mind.
“We played really safe, but a few factors really made the decision. One of the numbers was declining, and then Hawaii was really safe, ”said Kristina Barnes.
But while Bay Area counties have reported a decrease in new COVID-19 infections, a variant of Coronavirus has been confirmed here in Santa Clara County.
Stanford Health experts have confirmed a new double coronavirus mutation, at least one case here in the Bay Area and several suspects.
But it is not yet clear whether this new option is more dangerous.
“There is no clear evidence that this double variant is more virulent or causes more severe disease,” said Dr. Dean Winslow of Stanford University.

“Most people will have an immune response. It may not protect against a complete infection, but at least it will protect against moderate or severe illness, ”added Winslow.

What really underscores this is how important it is for the entire US population to get immunized as soon as possible.
But at this point, Santa Clara County said the CDC does not consider this new option an “option of interest.”
