Officials in Williamson County, Texas, received 900 doses of Moderna vaccine for first responders on Wednesday, but decided to close for Christmas without administering them, the Texas Tribune reported.
Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell on Friday criticized public health officials in the county, saying he should have given hundreds of vaccines immediately, instead of closing on Friday, the press said.
The batch of vaccines was intended for firefighters, those providing mortuary or death services and school nurses.
County officials plan to start administering the vaccines early Saturday morning. They tried to say that the vaccines arrived earlier than scheduled and feared that there would be confusion if he administered them immediately.
“My answer is simple: pig washing,” Gravell told KXAN on Friday. “Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is ready to launch the vaccine within an hour. St. David was ready to launch it in an hour. “
“We’re sitting on something that could have been a Christmas miracle.”
Williamson County recorded the 200th coronavirus-related death on December 24th.
