The county exceeds 600,000 cases – Deadline

Los Angeles County reached another grim stage on Saturday, while public health officials reported more than 600,000 total cases of Covid-19. So far, the county has registered a total of 610,372 cases of coronavirus.

On Saturday alone, LA Public Health confirmed 13,756 new cases of coronavirus and 60 new deaths from the infectious disease. The numbers do not seem to be left in hospitals either, because county officials have registered 5,424 patients who are treated for the virus, 21% of patients being treated in intensive care.

Thousands of new cases a day continue a dangerous trend triggered by the Thanksgiving holidays and any associated travel and gathering. Although both state and local officials have enforced strict blocking rules, holiday gatherings and celebrations continue to tempt Angelenos to interact with residents outside their own households. Although wearing face shields, maintaining social distance, and avoiding indoor gatherings are all actions that can help minimize the spread of Covid-19, officials say staying home is the most effective way to avoid transmission and infection.

California Covid-19 Update: Statewide ICU Bed Availability Drops to Just 2%

Last week, Public Health reported that the number of coronavirus cases increased by 370% since November.

Although the first round of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine continues to be aimed at health care and the elderly, it is by far a total solution, as the availability of the ICU bed is declining at the state level by only 2%. In addition, the vaccine, which health officials say will likely be distributed to the general population by the summer of 2021 at the earliest, requires two doses to be fully effective.

To date, LA Public Health has confirmed a total of 8,817 coronavirus-related deaths. Johns Hopkins reports that the United States has identified a total of 17,631,293 cases and 316,006 deaths.
