The concept of Toyota’s BZ4X electric SUV is a look at the company’s future

Although it was a pioneer in hybrid and even hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, Toyota was slower than some other major automakers, such as General Motors and Volkswagen, to enter the all-electric vehicle market.

In the early 2000s, the Toyota Prius was received with the kind of enthusiasm now seen for Tesla models. There are waiting lists if you want to order one. Celebrities such as Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz were visibly photographed by the paparazzi who led them. Other carmakers have been criticized for not making more future-oriented hybrid models. Nearly 20 years after the second-generation Prius became a sensation, however, Toyota is seen as behind the creation of fully electric cars and SUVs, while others are rushing to compete with Tesla.

Toyota BZ4X is jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru.

The BZ4X, which is being developed in conjunction with Subaru, is one of 15 all-electric vehicles that Toyota plans to offer globally by 2025, the company said. There will be at least one electric pick-up in that range, and seven of these electric vehicles will be sold under a new BZ brand for electric vehicles. BZ means Beyond Zero.

The Japanese manufacturer has stated that it intends to offer a total of 70 “electrified” models by 2025, including plug-in hybrids, regular hybrids and hydrogen vehicles.

Toyota has stated that it intends to become “carbon neutral” by 2050. This means that the company’s products, as well as their production, will not add carbon dioxide to the Earth’s atmosphere. Other car companies, such as General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, have made similar commitments.
Toyota BZ4X will be part of a new series of electric vehicles that the company is planning.

Toyota will manufacture the BZ4X in China and sell it worldwide by mid-2022. The company did not provide details about the vehicle, such as the expected price or autonomy at a full charge. It would be Toyota’s first electric SUV from the Toyota Rav4 EV, which went out of production in 2014. The latest version of that electric SUV, which was sold only in parts of California and only for a few years, was a modified version of the Rav4 SUV equipped with batteries and electric motors supplied by Tesla.
