BEIJING (AP) – Coronavirus was found on ice cream made in eastern China, prompting the withdrawal of boxes from the same batch, according to the government.
Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd. in Tianjin, adjacent to Beijing, has been sealed and its employees have been tested for coronavirus, according to a city government statement. There was no indication that anyone had contracted the ice cream virus.
Most of the 29,000 boxes in the lot had yet to be sold, the government said. It is said that 390 products sold in Tianjin were tracked down and authorities elsewhere were notified of sales in their areas.
Ingredients include milk powder from New Zealand and whey powder from Ukraine, the government said.
The Chinese government has suggested that the disease, first detected in the central city of Wuhan in late 2019, came from abroad and pointed out what it says are discoveries of imported fish coronavirus and other foods, although foreign scientists are skeptical.
