The CDC’s mask mandate begins Monday at 11:59 p.m.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – During the pandemic, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis remained firm about his position on wearing the mask. In November, he extended his executive order banning local governments from violating the mask mandate.

Now, at least in terms of public transportation, there is no fine line about wearing a mask. Starting Monday at 11:59 p.m., if you are at an airport, bus, train, ferry or ship, or traveling on a trip such as Uber, Lyft or a taxi, it is a federal directive to wear a front cover.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an 11-page order on Saturday requiring travelers to wear masks to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

A scarf, ski mask or bandana are not classified as an adequate face covering and no shirt or sweater collar is pulled over the mouth and nose. And for wearers who like the cover right under the nose, it’s a no-no now. The masks must be worn in a way that covers both the mouth and the nose, says the CDC.

The CDC urges those responsible for public transportation and other hubs to make sure everyone warns of a mask when they enter or are inside.

‘This order must be followed by all passengers on public transportation (eg airplanes, ships, ferries, trains, subways, buses, taxis, ride-shares) traveling in, within or outside the United States, as well as transport operators (eg crew, drivers, drivers and other workers involved in transport operations) and transport hub operators (eg airports, bus or ferry terminals, train or metro stations, seaports , ports of entry) or any other area providing transportation in the United States. ”

See the CDC instructions below.

The following are the attributes of the masks required to meet the requirements of the Order. The CDC will update these instructions as needed.

  • The mask should fit comfortably but comfortably on the side of the face.

  • The mask must be a solid piece of material without slots, exhalation valves or perforations.

The following attributes are additionally acceptable, as long as the masks meet the above requirements.
