The broken wrist would end the season for Charlotte Hornets striker LaMelo Ball

Charlotte Hornets striker LaMelo Ball could miss the rest of the season with a broken right wrist, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hornets announced Sunday night that Ball had undergone an MRI and an initial diagnosis revealed a broken bone in his wrist. The team said Ball will be “listed as inactive indefinitely” and that additional updates will be provided when they become available.

Ball, considered the favorite for the NBA rookie of the year, is seeking a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis, a source told Wojnarowski.

Ball, 19, appeared to be injured in a fall early in the game during Saturday night’s loss to the LA Clippers. He played a lot in the second half, despite the fact that he clearly struggled with the discomfort of his wrist and finished with 13 points.

Ball, the younger brother of New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball, has an average of 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists this season.
