The BMW driver died after the car entered the Lauderhill bus station

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a fatal car accident that took place on Monday morning in Lauderhill.

The crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the Northwest 16th Street and North State Road 7 area.

Lt. Michael Santiago, Lauderhill police, said officers arrived at the scene to find two vehicles with major damage.

He said detectives believe a BMW involved in the collision was heading north on State Road 7 while a Mercedes-Benz was heading south before attempting a left turn to head east on Northwest 16th Street. .

As the Mercedes turned left, the two vehicles collided, sending the BMW crashing into a nearby bus stop, Santiago said.

The driver of the BMW was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the Mercedes was not injured and is cooperating in the investigation, Santiago said.

Santiago said North State Road 7 and Northwest 16th Street remain closed while investigators process the scene. Drivers are asked to use Northwest 31st Avenue as an alternative route for the time being.
