When Christina Curley went to bed on the night of September 10, she probably didn’t think she would wake up the next morning and stop working at Google. But that’s exactly what happened.

Conformable NBC News, Curley announced in a Twitter thread now viral on Monday, that she was fired from her role as a diversity recruiter alongside the technology giant, even though she had been his “most successful” recruiter in their company’s history.

Originally started in 2014 to help improve the relationship between Google and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), Curley says that before its role – the company never hired anyone from an HBCU to play a technological role. And can anyone here guess why?

“The reason Google never hired a HBCU undergraduate student directly in one of their key engineering roles is because they didn’t think there was talent in these institutions – until I showed up,” Curley wrote in a tweet.

While working for the company, Curley insists that she tirelessly supported on behalf of HBCU students, although she was constantly greeted with reactions from her superiors. And by reaction, it means refusals of promotion and leadership opportunities, reductions in compensation, placement on performance improvement plans, despite the fact that it has very good performance values, to be shouted and intentionally excluded from meetings. A white woman manager even went so far as to tell Curley that her Baltimore accent was a handicap that should have been revealed to her colleagues. All she feels is what eventually led to her leaving the company.

Right now, Google is running 0-2 when it comes to their treatment (or rather, mistreatment) of their black employees. Earlier this month, Root reported that the company was brought under control after the news of the dismissal of another of their top executives appeared, Timnit Gebru. Gebru, who led Google’s Ethical Artificial Intelligence team together, said Bloomberg was fired by the head of Google’s AI division in response to an internal email calling for the company’s treatment of minority employees, especially those who identify as black and female.

NBC News notes that Google has not yet commented on the allegations.
