SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Michigan officials said adults over the age of 65 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday, January 11th.
For now, people will be required to have an online appointment to get vaccinated. No walk-ins will be made.
Beaumont Health sent 900,000 emails to seniors already enrolled in myBeaumontChart on Thursday night, warning them that appointments are available. Many people responded, causing the system to crash.

“We’re excited to be able to move forward, but I really want people to be patient,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, Michigan’s chief medical officer. “It’s not like a flu shot. You can’t go to a unit or call and ask for a vaccine. “
When the system is repaired, it may not be possible to book an appointment weeks in advance. Each hospital system or health department will depend on how many doses the federal government and state launch each week, which means it will probably take more online trials to get an appointment.
At Beaumont Health, after making your appointment, you will be directed to the hospital’s Southfield service center. You will then see 12 registration offices that will send you to one of the 24 vaccination stations. After receiving the vaccine, you will go to an observation area for 15 minutes and then make a follow-up meeting for the second dose.
“The flow goes very fast, but that’s why we emphasize that you have to have an appointment. We don’t want people to stand in line, “said Dr. Jeffrey Fischgrund of Beaumont Health. “We’ve found that this is the safest way to vaccinate most people at once.”
