The Chicago Bears hunt for a starting quarterback included an attempt to sign a backup copy of the New Orleans Saints and former first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, Jameis Winston.
The attempt failed, of course, because Winston agreed to a one-year deal to return to Saints Monday night.
According to Jeremy Fowler, ESPN, the Bears made a pass to Winston that fell incomplete.
The Bears were suitors for Jameis Winston before signing with the Saints, according to the source. Chicago is running out of options.

Interestingly, Bears longtime reporter Brad Biggs wrote on Twitter that Winston is a “Plan B” at Halas Hall, suggesting that GM Ryan Pace has a view on a larger capture.
Russell Wilson, maybe?
At this point, it’s Wilson or bust. Free agents, such as Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick, offer nothing more than Nick Foles, and investing any kind of guaranteed money or free agent dollars in them just wouldn’t make sense.
Let’s hope Pace has another blockbuster trade in the tank.
