The Bears asked to speak to George Edwards about the DC job

The Chicago Bears have a vacant defensive coordinator position and are taking the time to examine all internal candidates and other candidates to replace Chuck Pagano, who has retired this season.

Following a report that Bears asked to interview Jonathan Gannon, coach of defensive end Indianapolis Colts, Chicago is also asking to discuss with Dallas Cowboys defensive end George Edwards about opening their defensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

If the Bears are looking for experience as a defensive coordinator, Edwards could be their type. Prior to being Dallas ‘senior defensive assistant, Edwards was the Minnesota Vikings’ 2014-19 defensive coordinator. Prior to that, he also served as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills (2010-11) and the Washington football team (2003).

Interestingly enough, Edwards interviewed for the Bears coaching position in 2018, before Matt Nagy was hired. So it’s someone who was on their radar.

It has been reported that Bears is also considering several internal candidates for the position of defensive coordinator, namely defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and safety coach Sean Desai.
