Two people were rescued from an avalanche in Switzerland after their dogs barked frantically to help them, officials said.
The two were caught while on a hiking trail in the Aversa Valley, near the border with Italy, on Saturday at 15:00, said the Rega air ambulance service.
“Their dogs, who were not buried by the snowdrifts, caught their attention by barking loudly,” officials said Sunday.
“The dogs caught the attention of a group of snowmen who were at a certain distance in the same valley, but did not witness the avalanche.”
Emergency crews were called and were able to reach the couple 15-20 minutes later.
One of the hikers was completely buried, while the other’s hands were visible, officials said.
The crews dug them up and transported them by plane to the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and mild hypothermia.
Details about the couple, including their identity, were not immediately reported.
