The apartment building on the north side collapses after a major fire

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas Firefighters in Bexar County are working to put out a large apartment fire on the north side.

The fire started around 1 p.m. on Thursday in an apartment complex in block 4000 of TPC Parkway.

Residents say they had been warned to turn off their water heater, and moments later a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building in the complex, officials said.

Bexar County firefighters say 50 residents have been evacuated from the building.

The fire then spread to other units in the building and slowly destroyed it while firefighters worked to put it out.

Firefighters said they bring water to the scene and fight the flames because the hydrant in the complex is not delivering water because it was frozen. Six water trucks have already been emptied and more help is expected.

Several firefighters from different agencies assist on the spot.

A SAWS map shows a water outage in the area. Residents of the complex say they had no water, and SAWS says water should be restored on Friday east of US 281 near Evans and Bulverde roads.
