Like it or not, Facebook Messenger can be unavoidable, especially if your friends and family have established themselves on the app as their main messaging service. I know people who kept their Facebook accounts just to keep using Messenger. But it’scome on, if you’re with Facebook, no doubt, there are some Messenger features that you need to know in order to make the most of the service, while also protecting your privacy.
If you don’t want people to see if you’re online – and how long it’s been since you last logged in – just tap the profile picture at the top left of the Messenger app and select Active state to stop him. These profile settings are also where you can activate Dark way, which will give you a break while you talk.
From Settings, you can customize who has permission to send you messages. Touch Privacy and then Delivery of the message to allow all your Facebook friends to send you messages, only friends who have your phone number, etc. Preferences, Select Telephone contacts and disable Messenger’s ability to drag everyone into your phonebook. This prevents Facebook from having data about people who might not want the company to know anything about them, and it’s also just good practice in general.
If you want to make Messenger even more private, you can enable end-to-end encryption and missing messages by touching a contact’s name in a chat and selecting Enable secret conversations. Dragging a conversation up will activate Vanish module which will not encrypt your messages, but make them disappear when you exit the conversation. You’ll still receive a notification if your contact screenshots your messages in Vanish mode (or vice versa), so if it says: Don’t use it to be creepy.
