The 13-legged cannibal crocodile eats a more unhappy beast

A 13-meter-long Nile crocodile made minced meat from a much smaller cousin in South Africa, new wild images show.

Shutterbug Jan Butter from Amsterdam witnessed the snack attack in the Kruger National Park, capturing the moment when the hungry reptile became a cannibal.

“It was the first time I’d seen something like this with a crocodile,” Butter, 69, said Monday. “We were 10 days away from our trip to the Kruger. I sat by the water for about 30 minutes, waiting for the crocodiles to appear. “

And when they did, the massive beast ate – and a spectacle, sinking its 4-inch teeth into its doomed relative.

“Within about a minute, he shook his hand and dragged him into the water to eat,” recalled Butter, who was about 100 yards from the main course. “With dinner in the trailer, the crocodile swam.”

Nile crocodiles can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh up to 1,650 pounds, but are usually on average closer to 16 feet and 500 pounds.

They generally eat fish, but will attack “almost anything” in their path, including zebras, small hippos and their own species, according to National Geographic.
