Texas mother dies after whole family of 7 children, including newborn, contracted coronavirus

CYPRESS, Texas – A mother of five Texas children who was in a medically induced coma died fighting for her life after contracting COVID-19.

According to an update published on her GoFundMe account, Victoria Gallardo, 33, from Cypress, died on March 16. She leaves behind her husband, Armando, and five small children.

“Please understand that he led this battle to the last breath,” the update read. “Even though many family members, friends and others have prayed for her recovery, we recognize that she is now healed, just not the way we expected.”

KTRK-TV in Houston reported for the first time about the victory battle with coronavirus earlier this month. Her husband said they took the virus seriously. They wore masks and practiced social distance, but their 9-year-old daughter caught the virus after showing symptoms one day at school.

“We wore masks everywhere,” Armando said at the time.

The family of seven became ill, including their newborn daughter when she was just 11 days old.

“He developed a very high fever, he didn’t want to eat, he slept a lot,” Armando said of his newborn. “We became so worried. I didn’t think he would succeed at all.”

But as he and the children improved, he said Victoria got worse.

“He has no health problems. There are no basic conditions,” Armando said at the time. “He entered the ICU and was in critical condition.”

Armando is now left with the couple’s five young children. Friends and family hope the GoFundMe account will help raise money for the family. Victoria was a military veteran, according to friends. If you are interested in donating, visit GoFundMe Victoria here.
