Texas Governor Greg Abbott applauded and shamed by 800 migrant children

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott barely uttered a public syllable when it was revealed in 2019 that 1,000 unaccompanied migrant children had reported being sexually assaulted or harassed while in federal custody in his home state and elsewhere in the past four years.

After all, that report came during the Trump administration.

But now Joe Biden is president. And so, Abbott rushed to hold a press conference on Wednesday once state officials received a small number of baseless tips of abuse and neglect from about 1,600 unaccompanied migrant children in a temporary mega shelter in San Antonio, Bexar County. He was flanked by Texas Rangers wearing a Stetson hat, the facility behind him in the background, as if it were a crime scene.
