Texans unlikely to keep will be fuller

The expansion of the Texans Will Fuller will miss week 1 of the 2021 regular season due to the six-game PED suspension it received in November, but it is still one of the most exciting recipients set for the unlimited free agency in March. This is especially true because players like it Kenny Golladay and Chris Godwin they have more and more chances to stay with their current clubs, which pushes Fuller higher in the wish list for teams that need recipients.

And as Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle writes, it looks like Fuller will indeed hit the open market. Fuller and QB Deshaun Watson enjoys a close friendship and given Watson’s relationship with the team at the moment, Wilson says Fuller will not return to Houston unless he is hit with the franchise label (a reconciliation between Texans and Watson could change that , but the situation seems invincible). However, several sources in the league say they do not expect Houston to use the label on Fuller, even if the club would like to regain it.

After all, the Texans are just $ 3.9MM below the limit right now and while restructuring and releasing players like RB David Johnson will give them some extra space, it may not be enough to carry Fuller on a ~ 16 USD franchise label. Instead, the team could continue to run with Brandin Cooks – which flourished during Fuller ‘s suspension – along with Randall Cobb and younger players Keke Coutee and Chad Hansen.

Spotrac indicates that Fuller is in line for a four-year contract worth $ 67.8 million, which seems almost correct. The $ 16.9 million average would put Fuller in the top-10 on the WR market, and although he struggled with injuries throughout his professional career, he was finally on the right track to play a season complete 16 games for the first time before being suspended (for what it’s worth, he said he violated the league’s PED policy just because he took drugs that the doctor who prescribed them thought they were NFL-approved).

His speed and explosiveness would be an advantage for most any receiving body, so while the history of injuries is a concern, he should not be without suitors. Last season, he was on pace for nearly 1,300 welcoming yards and double-digit TDs. His average 16.6 yards per reception has been high in his career and reflects his ability to play great.
