The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is the most powerful SUV in the world, thanks to the latest version of the American Hellcat saga of the 6.8-liter V8 Supercharged Hellcat.
The monster engine debuted in the Dodge Challenger coupe in 2015, migrated to the Dodge Charger sedan, made a strange transformation into the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and recently invaded the Ram 1500 TRX engine compartment. It was only a matter of time before it arrived in Durango, which has always been the most muscular car of SUVs.
The current generation Durango has been on sale for over a decade, and the entire range is refreshing for 2021, especially in the cabin, which has a dashboard inspired by those in the Challenger and Charger.
The Durango SRT Hellcat also receives a set of very deep front buckets and standard seven-passenger seats. No matter how fast you drive, the Durango SRT Hellcat always offers a brilliant fighter feel to sustain your appearance. The suspension has been improved, and the Pirelli performance tires, almost a foot wide, offer a lot of bites while running with steam on everything in their path.
Even with low-profile rubber, a standard set of computer-controlled adaptive shocks offers more than enough comfort to allow for everyday use, but stiffens nicely to improve maneuverability in Sport or Track mode.
I didn’t take it to the latter and I’ll be interested in the final number of people actually doing, apart from a tow truck that’s very suitable for a Challenger race car. It fits that job with the best rating in the £ 8,700 class and trailer brake control, but the worst in the 13 mpg fuel economy class doesn’t make it exactly an ideal carrier.
SRT Hellcat offers all the features of other Durango models, including automatic cruise control, the latest version of Dodge’s excellent UConnect infotainment system and a rear seat entertainment system with HDMI inputs and a trendy Blu-Ray player occupying most of the room in the armrest storage compartment in front of the chair.

Sounds good? Well, if you’re not one of the approximately 2,000 people who already have a confirmed order, you’re out of luck. That’s all Dodge will do, and we’re all talking at an initial price of $ 82,490.
It looks like this engine / vehicle combination won’t be able to meet the stricter emission standards that will come next year and a brand new Grand Cherokee is on its way for 2022 as well, so it’s likely that Trackhawk will follow Durango SRT Hellcat in the great beyond. , but the engine will live in Challenger, Charger and TRX for a while longer.
It makes a lot more sense in all of this, which can actually use power on the track or off-road, but claiming the most powerful SUV title at the door is not the wrong way to go.
