Telling me I was fired by the Jets is “news for me”

Jets coach Adam Gase said Wednesday he was not told the Jets ownership would be fired after Sunday’s season finale against the Patriots.

On Tuesday, there was a report from WFAN that said the Jets property told Gase he would be fired.

“That was news to me,” Gase said. “Nobody told me that.”

Although Gase has not been informed of the decision, Jets CEO and President Christopher Johnson is expected to fire Gase after the game against the Patriots. Gase is 9-22 in two years as the team’s coach.

Gase said he is not focusing on his job status.

“I probably learned when I was 22, Nick Saban told me you do your job until someone tells you something else,” Gase said. “It simply came to our notice then. My job is to get ready to go this Sunday and try to win a game. ”

The Jets won two straight games after a 0-13 start. Jets offense was terrible under Gase, whose background is on the offensive side of the ball. Gase was asked if he is worried that his reputation as an offensive coach has been successful, with the Jets having offense no. 32 in the NFL for the second straight season.

“I don’t know if worry is really the right word,” Gase said. “It simply came to our notice then. If there’s one part of the ball that I want to make sure is correct, it’s that. It didn’t happen and that’s on me. “
