Team17 fully acquires the golf brand with your friends for 12 million pounds

Golf with your friends was a hit with the players last year. Although I didn’t have the strongest opinions about it – giving it 6/10 stars – I thought it was a decent multiplayer mini-golf game, although one that suffered from difficult controls. Obviously, it was a success for Team17 publishers, who have now bought the rights and assets of the game from the developer Blacklight Interactive for 12 million pounds.

The acquisition of Golf With Your Friends will be divided into two segments, consisting of an initial payment of GBP 9 million, followed by another GBP 3 million after 12 months. Speaking about this directly, Team17 revealed plans to “create additional opportunities to extend the life cycle of the existing game.” This includes other DLC, with a potential sequel that is being analyzed.

In this announcement, Team17 also shared its financial results for 2020, recommending that they were “ahead of expectations” and witnessed a 34% increase.

Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick said this on the news:

We are excited to start 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and that we see great potential in this IP. In the last two years, GWYF has shown strong consumer demand and attraction in the mass market, doubling its owner base and achieving success on multiple gaming platforms.

GWYF is the type of IP that we believe is suitable for the property, it is successful and proven, but still at the beginning of its journey. The team at Blacklight Interactive can be sure that we will take great care of this amazing IP.

What team 17 will bring in 2021 remains to be seen, but we are certainly excited to see what they have planned.
