“The Governor’s statements are totally wrong and we reject them. Our teachers have always gone one step further, and even with the limitations and flaws that exist in the public system, they have maintained the education of our children and youth without interruption. It is very unfair to compare the public system with the private system, if we know the conditions of the Ministry of Education. It is worth remembering that our teachers took to the streets to clean, condition and lift the system after the hurricanes and earthquakes. Amid the pandemic, the teacher has managed to deliver the bread of teaching despite not having all the necessary tools, ” Toledo said in written statements.
“We cannot accept, endorse or generalize that our education system is paralyzed and that virtual education is a fiction,” he added.
“Our teachers have offered their classes and reinvented themselves to meet the needs of their students, sometimes late into the night. It is time for the rulers to stop the attack and disdain for our teachers, while they are the ones training the professionals of the future. We demand respect and solidarity for our teachers! “, He said.
The union leader said that “it is a tragedy that we are still paid the worst in this country, causing the flight to the United States of colleagues who are highly coveted and paid as they deserve in other jurisdictions.”
The Association of Teachers and the Local Union sent a communication to Governor Pierluisi on January 28 with the aim of discussing all issues affecting the teaching profession and strengthening the ties to work together to improve the working conditions of the teaching profession and public education. At the moment, the exclusive representative of the teachers has not received an answer.
