TE Cole Kmet bears explain the punishment for unsportsmanlike conduct toward the Saints

The Chicago Bears were at the wrong end of a terrible call for officials in Sunday’s 21-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC wild card game.

Cole Kmet was penalized 15 meters for unsportsmanlike conduct after attacking Saints defender Malcom Jenkins after a short reception. Kmet, who threw the ball back to the official after the game, explained the misunderstanding to reporters on Monday.

“They (ref.) Told me I was blatantly throwing the ball at the age of 27,” Said Kmet. “Later in the game, even 27 said they escaped with one.”

Kmet went on to say that he was never marked for unsportsmanlike conduct – never – until Sunday’s loss.

“My mother was upset because she knew her son would never do such a thing.” Said Kmet.

While the Bears’ 2020 season ended in a disappointing way, Kmet’s debut year failed. His playing time increased in the second half of the year and he finished his debut season with 28 catches for 243 meters and two touchdowns.

Kmet is a big part of what the Bears will do in offense in 2021 and beyond.

“I want to win a Super Bowl in Chicago,” said Kmet.
