TE Arik Gilbert returned to the transfer portal after a short time with Florida Gators football

Arik Gilbert has returned to the market after announcing that he will re-enter the transfer portal on Sunday.

Gilbert entered the transfer portal while enrolled at LSU and eventually chose Florida as his next destination on January 31st. Four weeks later, Gilbert took to Twitter to say he rejects the decision and will not join the Gators.

“I decided to disengage from the University of Florida and re-enter the portal.” Gilbert wrote on Twitter. “I will not announce my final decision until I am enrolled in school and on campus.”

Gilbert was the 6th-ranked recruit, a five-star player, in the 2020 class and played in eight games as a true freshman this past season. He represented 368 receiving yards and two touchdowns, but gave up the rest of the season on December 9th.

When Gilbert resigned, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said he hoped Gilbert would return with the program. But Gilbert never played another down for the Tigers and announced his intention to transfer almost a month later.

Gators has two more ESPN 300 signers from the 2021 class in Gage Wilcox and Nick Elksnis; Kemore Gamble, Keon Zipperer and Jonathan Odom are also on the list.

Florida is looking to replace Kyle Pitts, who led the team in receiving touchdowns.
