TCL teases the Fold ‘N’ Roll concept with the trio of new phones

In the US, TCL is best known for its affordable TVs, but this year, company trying to broaden their horizons with the launch of three new phones and an exciting new teaser for its Fold ‘n’ Roll hybrid concept.

following TCL 20 SE and TCL 20 5G, which were announced earlier this year at CES, TCL adds TCL 20L, TCL 20L + and TCL 20 Pro 5G to its portfolio, with North America going to get TCL 20S instead of 20L +.

Starting at 229 euros, 20L will be the most affordable of TCL’s three new phones and will come with a 6.67-inch FHD + screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, a 4GB RAM base and 128GB storage, and Quadruple rear cameras (48-MP main, 8-MP ultra-wide, 2 MP macro and a 2 MP depth sensor).

The 20L also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a large 5,000 mAh battery, and unlike many other premium phones, the 20L (along with 20L + and 20 Pro 5G) also offers a 3-pin audio jack. , Good 5mm and a microSD card reader, which are definitely handy inclusions.

Switching to 269 euros brings you to the TCL 20L +, which is a slightly improved version of the 20L standard, with a high-resolution 64 MP main camera in the back, but with the same Snapdragon 662 inside, in addition to 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage as standard.

Some other special features on the 20L + include the rear lighting mode and the Super Night TCL mode company new Circular Polarization Display technology, which has been specially designed to allow you to clearly see your phone screen while wearing sunglasses. Now, to be honest, we haven’t come across a lot of phones that fight polarized lenses, but they do happen from time to time, usually on budget devices, so although this technology isn’t exactly a game-changer, is a handy bonus for general use.

TCL has not yet released full details for 20S for people from the USA, Canada and Mexico, but TCL said phone will have a design and a price similar to the others in the range.

Finally, there is TCL 20 Pro 5G, which starts at 549 euros and boasts a number of premium features, including a deluxe design, 6.67-inch FHD + AMOLED display, 48 MP rear camera with OIS and a Snapdragon 750G chip that supports sub-6GHz 5G.

Additional features that differentiate the TCL 20 5G Pro from its more affordable siblings include a 32 MP selfie camera that supports HDR, built-in Qi wireless charging, and TCL’s NXTVISION 2.0, which enhances the richness and color accuracy of the display and features a powerful AI-visual enhancer to promote your mobile videos.

Wuntil the three new TCL phones look solid and have solid specifications for the price, TCL has teased another device that could be a look at a future phone or possibly the foldable TCL, about which the company said will arrive some time before the end of the year.

Designed to present a flexible display that can be manipulated in several ways on a single device, the Fold ‘n’ Roll concept from TCL shows that the ultimate smartphone / tablet hybrid, capable of unfolding from a typical candy bar-large tablet receiver before the screen is fully unfolded to reveal a 10-inch screen with a wide screen aspect ratio suitable for watching movies.

Unfortunately, TCL has no plans to sell the Fold ‘n’ Roll concept, but the device serves to continue the company’s ongoing research into flexible display devices, with TCL’s ultimate goal of release an “affordable” foldable phone by the end of 2021. Now, if that means a price of $ 1,000 or less, it’s still unknown, but with devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 still go to $ 1,800 (even after a recent $ 200 price reduction), any effort make less expensive folding phones sound good to me.

The TCL 20L, 20L + / 20S and 20 Pro 5G will go on sale tomorrow in parts of Europe, with US prices and availability expected to be announced later this spring.
