Nintendo has had a lot of ups and downs as a company, from its early 20th century console market to its 2017 launch of the Nintendo Switch (which some of you may have heard of). It doesn’t seem like I’ve been writing sad news on the Wii U for a long time or remembering about the 3DS now that Nintendo has stopped making little boys.
Now, we can see the last 31 years of Nintendo console sales in an overview, thanks to Visual Capitalist (click here for the full resolution image). It may not include sales of the virtual Boy Boy, but it covers a substantial number of Nintendo’s plastic joys, from Game Boy to the present.
2009 was a cracking year for Ninty, with both DS and Wii making record sales, and it looks like the Switch could one day reach its peak. With 154 million DS sales in ten years and 101 million Wii sales, the Switch has a long way to go, but in almost four years of existence it has already sold over 68 million units, with a projected 45 million still in 2020 alone (thanks, The passage of animals!).
